higashi tune
project overview
higashi tune is an algorithmic composition developed in supercollider, built from melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic material drawn from northern chinese folk and narrative traditions, including forms of quyi such as kuaibanshu, jingyun dagu, jingdong dagu, and the operatic genre hebei bangzi. rather than quoting these styles on the surface, gong works with musical behaviors found in their interludes and preludes, treating melodic contours, rhythmic gestures, and structural tendencies as compositional material. these elements are broken into short units and rearticulated through generative processes, where pitch order, duration, and event relationships are continuously reshaped through controlled randomness and live system control. granular and ambient layers form an evolving sonic field around these materials. through this approach, higashi tune treats culturally specific musical logic not as stylistic reference, but as active material within a dynamic electronic sound world.
